To think they deliberately tried to ruin the gaming experience for their customers may be the stupidest thing i've ever heard...
By reducing excess operating costs, they are not trying to ruin the game for anyone. They are simply reducing excess costs. Its like buying a semi truck to haul around a canoe. If you could fit the product onto a smaller container without effecting the quality, then why not? There is no need to pay for a physical server to house virtual servers with a max player count 2000 players when they top out at 1200-1500 people.
As to double exp weekend and bot-watch, I think they are using it to collect data. I think they are trying to find out how long player are willing to play at a time and how their play style changes over long periods of time, then they will use this data to enhance their detection algorithms. Logically, a normal human can not keep a high rate of activity for 20 hours straight. Eventually, they will start to slow down, mess up clicking, etc. A bot would keep on doing the same rate and programmatically misclick between a certain time range for many hours.

Extra server load? On a 2x bonus xp weekend? Who could have predicted such a thing? :P
Considering they used to have over 200,000 concurrent players with no lag, either they down-graded their hardware to something cheaper to reduce operation costs since they do not need to provide service to as many players or they have a bug in their entity handling subroutines which is blown to a larger scale due to the changes made for bonus experience.
-
You can reduce some lag by making sure your graphic settings include "idle animations" being set to "few". This hides any animations which are behind another player or entity that you would not notice anyway. I would go into a long spiel on why the servers are lagging technically speaking, but most people would not understand a word I would say.
Here is a more basic explanation: Basically, the game server has a certain amount of resources allocated from the physical server it runs on. A physical server usually hosts three game servers. The servers uses the resources by handling entity updates (Player and NPC movements, interactions, etc), world events (Stars, evil trees, holiday events, etc), farming plot updates, quest instances (when your character is separated from the main game), and other things. When those physical server resources are used up or maxed out or each virtually allocated world uses it's allocated resources, the server basically becomes inundated and starts to choke. When more and more players across the hosted game worlds on a physical server start to do more and more actions than normal, the server needs to handle those additional tasks.
There are a few things Jagex could've done ahead of time to prevent this, but they probably weren't expecting the server load.

I think it would be great to add a custom modifier for experience gains on both planners and calculators. It would make it slightly easier to calculate and plan levels for things like experience boosting gear and bonus experience weekends. It would take maybe a couple of minutes per page to add, unless you use a global CMS template per calc/plan page.

The new ecto thing works on Barrows Brothers. You get 15 xp each kill.
-
-
About 2 seconds after I reported a spam bot, this happened:
-
-
Went on a barrows spree:
Starting gear and inventory:
Results: (1 trip)
A total of 28 chests.
It took 2 hours to do and I would've lasted another 12-22, but my polypore staff died.

the main thing is that with enough time, bots will eventually start attempting to control the things you actually do care about, even though at the moment you may not think such a thing will ever happen to you
it is foolish to think that they, like anybody else in rs, will ever be satisfied at some point and not go that step further, when they already have done it a million times over
Research shows signs of a Kiln bot in the works since every wave is the same, which is easier to script. Time for 250,000gp fury's.

You sound like Harry Potter
Bloody Hell you are right! ...and wasn't Harry Potter a seeker too?
Great guide! I will surely use this when I do Glacors.

How do people get 10k pouches done per hour?
By taking noted secondaries and the charms to the summoning shop. They sell like 50 secondaries to the shop, buy back unnoted, infuse the pouches, sell the pouches to the shop, buy more secondaries, and repeat. This is an expensive way to train, but incredibly fast.
-
You can process 10k charms per hour with mousekeys.
-
So since they are doing 2x for summoning, I will be getting 83-90/91. Going to have 75 thieving by then as well for FPF'ing agility to 77. The rest of the time will be for crafting and magic.

I tested this last night and had the same results.

As a point of interest on the playing for 48 hours strait, unless your super man or being prescribed a Eugeroic for narcolepsy or another major sleep disorder, then your chances of being able to productively play RuneScape for a full 48 hours are pretty much non existant. You can stay awake that long with the help of stimulants yes, but you'll be in pretty out of it (which here translates to sucking at a point and click game) unless your stimulant of choice is crack (and if it is, then your probably not reading this).
True, which is why it is nice to have an atypical polyphasic sleep pattern. Instead of missing out on 16 hours of potential experience (if I sleep 8 hours per normal schedule) I would only miss out on 10-12. That is if I actually plan on maximizing my weekend which will not happen. I will only maybe put 5-8 hours in over the weekend.

Using numbers just off the top of my head (someone please corerct me if I'm wrong) and assuming you played for the entirety of the BXPW;
Past BXPWs
First 10 hours averaged to 1.7x = 7 'free' hours
The next 62 hours were 1.1x = 6.2 'free' hours
Maximum = 13.2 'free' hours
Hallowe'en BXPW
All 48 hours are 2x = 48 'free' hours
I prefer the old method. :P
Would be intense for the first 5-7 hours then relax for the rest. Going to be an all out exp-fest for this one.
Which means an awesome merching opportunity!

Jagex should not be crucified because they decided to change their opinion on something. Hell, you should be crucifying your local and national Governments as they tend to make more drastic changes which effect you.
When it comes to prolonged gameplay, as long as it is very seldomly done, I do not see the harm. Playing video games for 48 hours is not really that bad as you will MOST LIKELY end up sleeping for 12-16 hours following the event. Yes people have died for extreme gameplay (3+ days no breaks, sleep, or food), but it is not Jagex's job to play big brother. (Insert something controversial about Natural Selection here)
I for one will taking part in a social event among three other friends in one of their basements. We are doing a LAN party complete with pizza, Arnold Palmers, and some hardcore gaming. As all 4 of us are about to become SMP cadets in the Army, we decided it was time for one last gig.

On the fansite forums they told it's a 2x-multiplier for the whole weekend, they haven't mentioned something about summoning, so I suppose it is also benefitting from this multiplier. :)
Just in case, I bought additional tertiary ingredients which should land me 90 or 91 summoning from 83. I still have a couple of weeks to farm crimsons at waterfiends though. I REALLY hope summoning finally gets the 2x multiplier instead of the 1.1x BS.

Went to solo Rex for the first time as a level 134.
First kill got this:
20th got this:
Got 5 more kills then teleported out due to storm outside. Could've got another 15-20 more.
I used slayer dart and noobish gear as this was my first time. Next time I will use PPS and better gear.

Gwasha that is not what I was saying at all.
If anything, I am saying it should be broader - like mad may necklace. Maybe you get a timer and can use ten hours of bonus experience in smaller increments whenever you see fit. This would discourage unhealthy play and reward everyone equally.
Yes, I would rather see a necklace or some type of wearable booster given to anyone who logs in on the weekend which will expire at the end of the month. They could give it like 1m or 2m exp or maybe 10 hours of use or something like degradable armour. There is too much going on the weekends. I tend to boss hunt, they have the EoC beta going on, people go outside once in a while on weekends. I would much rather use the bonus at my own time as I believe many players would too. This would reduce the price spikes over time as players have more than 2 days to use their experience.
