Please also understand that if you approach a portal and you cannot reach the spot, don't attack the portal for it will be pointless. Simply go after the npc's if your combat is high enough.

For Portal Killers: One helpful strategy that helps portal killers oddly enough relates to Real Estate in the sense that both revolve around three things: location, location, location. By utilizing the spot left or right of the respawn point, you can be in range of the portal, and at the same time be able to counter those pesky spinners without running through the hordes of npcs (or yelling at others to kill spinners, which most people do). As soon as you approach a portal, stand in one of the two spots and start attacking. When/If a spinner spawns, attack it. Keeping in mind, you do not have to kill the spinner, just direct it's attention to you. This strategy is especially helpful when soloing a portal.
