  2. Why isn't this thread in suggestions?

If you really wanted no one to reply to this thread, why are you mincing words? Just say it.

Find a random idea on the suggestions forum, add a big "What if" to the beginning, and then ask everyone's opinion at the end. When you're done, tell me what the difference between that and this is.

I think what you are missing is that by adding what if, and asking people's opinions, makes the thread less of a suggestion and more of a discussion. And this forum, after all, is called general discussion.

The suggestions board is a discussions board as well. The difference is that its focus is on hypothetical content. This thread is purely hypothetical.

So as not to stray too far off topic - IMO I think permadeath PVP worlds would be an interesting experience if the XP and rare drops were increased exponentially. Such a world would have a radically different economy given the risks. I'm not sure how popular such a thing would be in the long-term.

  4. =P~

Lag has finally subsided. I've had nothing but a good time so far.

I play with a few friends on Ehmry Bay. Working on an Asuran Engineer named "Vono" atm. Feel free to add me.

My friend's and I got it. I decided to start with a Charr Engineer. I think I might make a Necromancer as well.

There are so many icons on the map, it's rather... intimidating. What with the Points of Interest, vistas (Assassins Creed anyone?), etc. it's just a bit overwhelming. But other than that, it is pretty fun so far. Managed to 100% explore Lion's Arch in about 30 minutes.

Just more ways to help break monotony - totally optional but worth doing for the XP. They won't be overwhelming once you've played for several weeks/months. Honestly, I think it's awesome they have so many different ways to gain XP.

  5. I showed him the thread and he agreed with you guys on sprite choice.

Pixel art always is really cool to look at, and yours definitely does not fail to impress!

I personally prefer the sprite on the left.

    I agree, and thanks!

If he's paying you for the one on the right, that's his funeral. I personally think after all the detail you put into the artwork to look realistic, that choosing a chibi character model "devalues" that work. To put it bluntly, it looks weird and out of place. Cartoon-y rpgs don't really stand out in the market, either. Off the top of my head I can only really think of one, and that's AdventureQuest...which should answer some questions for him right there. >_>

Other than that, the environments are beautiful works and the fully clothed player kit looks amazing.

(Can I get the name of the RPG? :3)

Lol sadly I'm not getting paid. Yeah, cartoony isn't my favorite either unless it's really well done. I actually tried to go a more detailed route but it took much longer. As the only artist atm, longer is bad

    And thanks! It's called Mavra.

That is awesome. It reminds of that one pixelator called Godslayer or something that we had on here years ago. He did this top down, rpg style pixel art too.

I'd go with the first style too. The chibi style is only really suitable for a weeaboo/anime-loving type audience.

I appreciate it. I couldn't help but look him up. You were right. He did it purely as an art form which is pretty cool.

  6. Hey guys! I don't see a lot of this stuff around the gallery so I thought I'd leave it here.

Recently I've started doing pixel art again, after a nearly 3 year hiatus, for a small 3-man 2D online RPG. The engine is made in C# using the XNA framework. The project is rather new so there's not a lot else to say about it.

I've managed create a few tilesets (the building blocks for creating 2D environments) and sprites so far. They've changed for the better since I first started thanks to user feedback on another board. Therefore, if you guys have any suggestions, I'm all ears. <3:

The final render will probably change thanks to the engine's alpha blending and particle effects.

Mock-ups of a cave and the outdoors:

    Walking.

and I'll finish up with a request for opinions. The current sprite is on the left. However, one of the guys wants something more chibi-style, which is on the right. Thoughts on preferences?

    Thanks for looking.

  7. Stat-less outfits, titles, and outfits I'm not bothered by - but I personally don't like that some things, such as improved skilling animations, are only available through micro-transactions. It's not very far off from Jagex trying to capitalize on stuff that could instead improve the game as a whole. Whether or not we get to mine ore by banging our head on rocks isn't a game changer, but you catch my drift.

  8. From my little taste, it looks like Jagex has managed to imitate the same generic MMORPG combat formula that has existed for years. I can't remembere the last time I disliked an update, but the lack of innovation here shames me. Maybe my expectations were too high?

Regardless, there is no way I'm face rolling my way to max combat.

...at least it's not long before Guild Wars 2.

  9. The more we learn, the more I am reminded of Guild Wars 2's combat.

The evolved combat looks entertaining, but I hope it doesn't become too tedious. I don't know if I have the attention for that kind of long-term training once the novelty of this all wears off. It will probably be very inefficient to stick to the old AFKing ways.

  10. If the cap is changing, it seems rather safe to assume they're adjusting the weight of Mage and Range on combat levels. Our system has always favored melee and combat levels have reflected that. If they can achieve a more balanced triangle from this update like they want, then it's only fair for Magic and Range to factor in.

As it stands someone with level 1 range/mage can be level 138. Doesn't seem right to me.

  11. My experience with the customer support is that it's absolutely terrible. They're usually quick to respond, but what's the point when it's an automated reply that doesn't even answer the question?

I've never had an emailed query answered. Contacted Jagex yesterday and got a response this morning about something completely irrelevant.

  12. omg its grasle!

    how ya doing? :)

all the art looks amazing, I never knew you were so good, lol. I especially like the jaguar one for the yearbook. Very nice.

    Heyaaaaaa Zaaps

Thanks! I've been doing well. gotten more into RS lately so I've been trying to denoob myself. :P

Drop me a message on "Gysp" sometime and tell me what's new?

You know your way around acrylics. Can't say that of myself. Can't say I am good in anything happening outside the computer, all my doodles turn into stickmen or cars or boats.

But I love that balancing between trees picture. Really life-like, at first glance thought it was a photo. But I think you need to get it on higher resolution to truly see the brushstrokes and the mastery behind it...

Thanks. I wasn't sure if bigger was too big. The great thing about acrylics is that they're so forgiving, so they aren't as discouraging to learn. I'm terrible at oils lol.

The computer really is a wonderful medium. Sometimes a stick figure can turn into something great, thanks to layers <3:

I like the work you do, however the second last painting (regardless of whether it is referenced) is 100% my fav, something I'd want on my wall. :) I think I know what you mean about the balance. Something I learned while teaching myself portrait photography was it's perfectly okay to cut off body parts as long as you do it in the right place. The general rule is never ever cut a limb off at the joint. Since the bottom of the picture is very closely cropped to the persons knee joint, I think it might be creating the lack of tension and unbalance you referred to. Maybe if you crop a little higher above the knee it might balance it out but that could also unbalance other parts of the photo because I'm in love with the way the trees are framed. Might work, might not, either way - great photo's/Paintings :D

Oo thank ya. I feel like something is either cut off, placed incorectly, or that my eyes just don't follow the rhythm that they should. I didn't even think of that... I'm sure that's one of the causes
