The Chronicles of Fusean

Many years ago, in a raging city, a young man named Fusean wandered around. He had never seen such a big city with its many stores, interesting people, and the beautiful statue in the middle of the square. He gazed around and in curiousity, started to talk around and ask questions. To his amazement, he discovered that few of the vibrant people were kind enough to talk. Most only ignored his simple questions and his determination to learn about this magnificient city. However, he did find a few people that talked to him, but most of them were in the same boat that he lay in.

"Hello," he said to one of the finer knights suited in a nice green suit of armor. "Can you show me around this fair city or do you know the way yourself?"

"Sure, I know the way quite well indeed. Come this way and I'll show you the museum and then if you want, I can show you the "Boss" of the city." The knight looked as though he were a tour guide rather than a knight, and his words were as kind as a father's to his son.

Fusean placed his hand on the left side of his armor belt; his nice smooth steel armor shined most it seemed when he done this. "That would be awfully kind of you sir, but what do you want in return of your services?" he said with an even more curious glare in his eyes.

The knight smiled warmly at Fusean, assuring him that his intentions were of kindness and just plain old fun. "I believe that it is my duty as a knight to serve the newcomers to our great city. I want nothing in return for my service. If you'll come with me, we'll get started." Fusean asked no more, and decided to take the knight's exciting tour of the city.

They passed through many crowds of noisy people and proceeded onwards toward a huge building rising from the large masses. People were so loud and hastened that Fusean lost sight of the knight once or twice, but caught up with him when the knight turned around to check. "What's this city called?" he asked, when the noise wasn't as bad.

"This is Varrok, the greatest city in the Free world of today. No other city can be compared with our fabulous abode. Although, we have many thieves and bandits that take refuge here, the good, kind-hearted citizens outweigh the corrupted ones. Now, let's turn here and proceed into the museum on our right here."

"Okay," Fusean retorted, "I really like your city. It's a dazzling light in this very dark world. I hope that I can become a citizen after this tour."

"I'm sure that can be arranged," the knight replied. "Where are you from anyway?"

"I am from a town called Lumberidge. I really don't want to talk about it though. My past is very vague, and I really don't care much for it either. What about you? Always been a Varrokian?

"I wish," the knight replied, "but I am from a town called Canifis, which lies to the northeast of here. My family owns a clothing store there, but I did not wish to pursue the family business, so I immagrated to Misthalin, and bought a house here in the city."

After the two had talked a while looked through all the museum, the knight led Fusean down the street and into a manhole. Down below his feet, Fusean saw a muddy area marked with many footprints. There were rats astir below him, scurrying around with bits of garbage in their hands. It would be no shock to find many more of those creatures down here, he thought to himself.

On they walked, through the dirt and the grime, until they reached a room filled with scorpions. The knight totally abolished the ferocious beast in merely a minute. Fusean was glad that the knight had came along. Still onward they trod in the old sewer system, finally stopping at a dead end. The room had three creatures in it, one that looked like a suit of armor and two they were walking skeletons! The suit of armor was no doubt a grubby knight that had liked to fight the many challenging beasts of the sewer.

When the Fusean's guide approached the other knight, he seemed to smile and nod at him as though he were very good friends with him. Fusean smiled at the other knight, trying to be friendly as well.

"Is this the end?" Fusean asked. Placing his hand, once again, on his armor belt.

"This is merely the beginning. Here, hold my shield for a second, while I cut at this wall of webs." Fusean held the heavy green shield only for a few seconds until allowing it to rest leaning against him. He, totally bewildered at the knights statement, watched as the knight tried time and time again to cut opon the white wall in front of them. All the time he wondered what lay beyond that wall and if that wall were used to keep people out, or to keep whatever dwelled there to remain there.

With a hard, vertical cut, the knight cut open the white wall and allowed the tour to proceed. "Wow, that was simply amazing. How did you pull that one off?"

"You'll find that out someday. Let's go on, we have but one more thing to see." Inside his mind, Fusean was jumping around, too excited about meeting the "Boss" of Varrok. He was a bit sceptical about why the Boss would live in such a filthy abode, but nevertheless, he continued on with his faith in the knight.

The road ahead was the worst yet to have been passed by Fusean. Great, monstrous red spiders hang from the ceiling and walked among the watery floor. He became so frightened that he almost turned around to leave. Looking to the knight, which continued on at a steady pace, he could only notice a sign of bravery.

With Fusean looking at him, the knight turned around and said, "Come on, he's right past these spiders. Don't be frightened, the "Boss" is a very powerful man in these parts. He isn't the king, but he is the "Boss" of the many good business here in Varrok. These spiders are his personal pets, but he doesn't mind if we kill them either."

At this, Fusean realized that he was wrong to have doubted the knight. The spiders tried to eat him up, but the knight prevented them each time. The cave started to really open up as they trod upon the muddy sewer ground. At the end of the cave--the true end--Fusean saw a giant cavern filled with small pools of bubbling water. The rush of warm air from the air pockets that erupted from the pools made him feel at home.

The knight pointed to a separate, much smaller cavern on ahead. Fusean ran across the spider infested floor and jumped over one of the pools to escape one of the nastier red spiders, until PLOP, he landed in a strong mire that held his feet down. The "Boss" stood before him; a strong gigantic man with a giant staff in hand.

"Are you the "Boss" around here?" he asked, but no response was given. "Hello? Can you understand me? Sorry for coming unexpected. I was just having a tour of your fine city." With this, the "Boss" turned to him and violently hit him on the head very quickly and with as much strength as you would imagine a gigantic man of having. Fusean tried to escape, and finally did. He had sustained three good whacked from that mighty giant of a man.

The kind-hearted knight stood across the cavern, still killing the red spiders, but not smiling at Fusean any longer. He gave Fusean a grin, as if he had planned the whole event. Then, as a giant red spider attack Fusean, the fiendish knight laughed as he watched the poor boy become food for the beastly red spider.

This was the story of Fusean, the lonely adventurer, who fell before the treachery of an evil knight. This is all that is known of Fusean's foolish tale, but maybe more of it will be unveiled.

I liked the twist at the end..

It's all too familiar to any former newbie who has been lead to death. A good tale of an all too-trusting young player learning the hard way. 4/5, nice work.
