Sk4terpunk90
I have been intrested in WoW for sometime and I know very little about the game. So heres some questions for you guys to hopefully answer. 1) So I want to get into it, Do I buy just WoW, or any expansions and such? 2) If I want to be able to play with my friends do i have to be in the same server\realm or whatever it is? 3) As with number 2, do i also have to be the same race (alliance/horde)? Thats all i can think of atm, ill ask more soon.
Nadril
Probaly better to ask in the offical thread (its a server thread but really its just the offical chat one). Anyways: 1.) You need to buy WoW and (if you want) TBC [the expansion]. The expansion isn't needed unless you wanna play one of the new races or after you hit 58. 2.) Yes. 3.) Yes. The only way alliance and horde can interact is through PvP (on a PvP server or if you are flagged on a PvE).

Ok well if i have anymore questions after these ill post there...but.... @1) So the only reason I should buy TBC (burning crusade) is if I want to play any of the new races AFTER i hit level 58? so, that means it would be pointless to buy it right away, and that i should buy it IF i want after i hit 58? @2) Thanks :) @3)I don't think my friend plays on a PVP server, so Id prolly join a PVE one, which I could still PvP if i wanted? The PvE/PvP system confuses me.
Nadril
1) No if you want to start as a new race you should buy it right away, otherwise wait until 58. 3) PvP comes in two flavors, instanced and non-instanced. Instances are the most common form of PvP and revolve around joining a battleground and fighting there. Non instanced PvP is 'world PvP' and generaly is what PvP servers are all about. See, on a pvp server your flag is always turned on in contested zones (90% of the game world which only excludes starter towns) so you esentialy can kill or be killed at any time. On a PvE server you have an option of turning on or off your PvP flag. There are also duels you can do. This involves simply chalanging another player and fighting to 1hp. It doesn't result in a death for either player and is generaly a good way to build up solid 1v1 skills if you are interested in PvP. On the horde side in the crossroads (a lvl 10-20ish town) I would always chalange people when I got the chance so I could learn the classes strengths and weaknesses in PvP. Don't worry too much if your friends are on a PvE server and you want to PvP. Unless you want to take part in ganking and general world PvP (which while WoW PvP is quite carebear and tame compared to other games) it still can get interesting when your area you are leveling in is camped by bored level 70's.
