SCEI and Sony announce Executive Management Transition at Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.

 

 

 

TOKYO, JAPAN, April 26, 2007 ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) and Sony Corporation (Sony) have jointly announced today that Ken Kutaragi, Representative Director, Chairman and Group CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., will retire from his executive position at SCEI effective June 19, 2007, when SCEIÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s annual shareholdersÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ meeting will take place. Mr. Kutaragi will pass on the torch to the next generation, stepping back from his executive management responsibility of the company to serve as Honorary Chairman of SCEI.

 

 

 

With his deep and instinctive insight into future technology, Mr. Kutaragi will also continue to support Sir Howard Stringer, Chairman and CEO, Sony Corporation, as senior technology advisor.

 

 

 

Concurrently, Kazuo Hirai, currently President and Group COO, SCEI, will be promoted to President and Group CEO, continuing his responsibility as the leader of the PlayStationÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâî business worldwide.

And from what I understand the PS3 had a little to do with retirement but that wasn't the only reason he retired. I think it was just time and he was old.

A lot of arrogant idiots will come on here and bad mouth him and say he did a bad job with the PS3, but he was the father of the best selling console in history. To me, the PS2 was more than a console. I can honestly say that I don't think that DvD would have lifted off as nicely if the PS2 didnt have a dvd player. How many people can say that their PS2 was their first DvD player?

I don't like the PS3, but the PSX and PS2 were two of the best things I ever owned (in more than one sense of the word)
