road runner dynamic to static?

Featured Replies

currently i got road runner dynamic ip address. is there a way to keep it a static ip address. im running a web server and clients often see 404 pages on my site. there any ways to?

Most home based ISPs do not allow servers to be run and will not lend a helping hand if you are running one. Many will proactivly shut you off for doing so too. Scimming RoadRunners AUP makes it sound like that's the case too, though it says nothing about getting shut off for it like mine does.

Unless you have specifically subscribed for commercial grade service, the ISP Service is provided to you for personal, non-commercial use only. The service cannot be used for any enterprise purpose whatsoever whether or not the enterprise is directed toward making a profit. If it is your intention to use this service for these purposes, please contact Operator to inquire whether commercial grade service programs are available.

To get a static IP, you will have to upgrade to their commercial packages. Untill then, you're SOL.

If the OP meant client as in client-server then there's nothing to say they are running a commercial site, it could just be image hosting for friends, a personal page etc.

I do not love thee, Dr. Fell,

The reason why I cannot tell;

But this I know, and know full well,

I do not love thee, Dr. Fell.

Even simple web hosting could be classified as an 'enterprise purpose'. Most home ISPs don't like people hosting servers on their networks simply because of the security hazards it can cause. Either way, s/he won't be getting a static IP address out of RoadRunner without upgrading to a commercial line.
