IRC Daemon On A Server That Won't Run .exe?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know of an IRC Daemon that doesn't have to be installed on the server? I don't have access or permission with my webhost to intstall exectuables or their linux equivalent on the server, I've already checked. Is there any way that I can just FTP the files, or an alternative?

If you don't have permission to run executables you certainly don't have permission to run an IRC server on their machines, so don't. You bought web hosting, not the right to do anything you want on their network.

If you want to start an IRC network then get a host that specifically deals with IRC, such as sh3lls.net.

Adding to what Collective said, many hosts explicitly forbid anything IRC related on their servers due to the threat of DDOS attacks and such that can happen. They'd rather not host it than deal with an attack that takes down their services (which is very understandable).

Along with sh3lls.net, there is also acmeshells.com and tekneeks.net.
