Well i decided i wanted to make myself a nice simple avatar, and as i'm a fan of cooking i decided to use that as a theme. This is what i've come up with so far, not much time spent on this.

 

 

 

 

 

 

I was wondering if anyone had some simple way to shade the checkered table cloth and any hints on making the pie crust look better.

 

I want to do a kind of wooden background but wouldn't know how to texture it.

Hmm, for the pie crust make it look floofy-er, heres a quick edit I made. Make the actual pie look more 3D, a bulge in the middle or something. Get rid of the black lines with a darker version of the colors around it. As for the tile, i put a little picture in with the pie to show you some basic stuff.

Oh about the wooden background: I don't think you should make it, the pie is the main pic, and I think the wooden background will distract to much from it. I think you should just fill the background with a nice color, and maybe shade it a little bit. But that's just my opinion.

i would shade the pie to the other direction, i mean, your shading are curves pointing to the left, make them point to the right to give volume to the pie. and use dithering
