There's two methods.

 

 

 

The most common is to buy a slayer gem (from any master) which costs about 5k. You can query this item any time you like for an update on how many you have left to kill.

 

 

 

The second method is the new dragonstone braclet which updates you every 10 kills. Unfortunately, this must be worn in the glove slot, making it unpopular.
