I plan to be smithing my own stuff to get to 85 ranged, so what would you recommend I do with a spending limit of 3 mil?

Well the Iron Knives and the Iron Bolts would cost the same, as they use only one bar per set.

 

 

 

Iron Knives are what I did, but I had no money concerns in mind.. I mined and smelted all my own iron ores. If you've got the patience to have to obtain and attach the feathers to the crossbow bolts, then I'd go with those, as you get 10 of them per bar as opposed to 5. Knives would be quicker, but not as much ammunition.

 

 

 

As for which would be better for training.. I'm not sure. Iron knives are pretty fast, but you don't get the added Range bonus as you would from the Crossbow. Bolts are slower, but a lot better than they used to be with the update on crossbows. I haven't tested them out and I really couldn't tell you if they're worth it. But if you want to get more bang for your buck, I might go with the bolts, just for sheer mass.
