If I was you, I would get 5 defence and leave it at that.

it depends if you loose alot to other pker; if the answer is yes, you do loose alot, are you prepared to pay for multiple sets of mystic, however if the answer is no, are you prepared to gain 4-5 combat lvls from getting 20 defence?

Well there are a ton of different things you can do here.

 

 

 

 

 

5 def = Not very useful at higher levels

 

 

 

20 def = It's okay for the prayer bonuses, but when it comes up to it, rune pures usually prevail.

 

 

 

45 defense = Pking usually gets interesting around here, going into the low 100's and all.

 

 

 

70 def = Usually the pro's like I Kasoy I do this. It's useful for the barrows (Usually dharokers) To pk.

 

 

 

 

 

Seeing as the new update, Bounty Hunter being released, i'd go with a rune pure.

Get 5 defence, If you're a ranger Steel chain owns, trust me. Full steel is also very much better then iron. I know what I'm talking about, look at my stats, X-pure. Trust me. I also recomend you get 50 attack and 60ish strength for HP.
