Greatsilverwyrm
About a week ago I installed a CD Burner in my grandmother's computer. Until just yesterday, her sound wouldn't work at all. All the speaker connections are fine, I can't find any broken drivers or anything, nothing's muted, nothing seems to be the matter.. Yesterday, like I said, her sound came back. It was back for about 10 seconds and then cut out again for about an hour, but now it's back almost full-time. She says though that every once in a while the sound will fade out for a bit and then come back in. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm thinking it could be that the speakers are shot, but, I dunno.. zonda
Ahh.... I remember the problems you were having  If it isn't drivers, and nothing is comflicting... then I am not sure. I would either say A) Speakers are going bad B) There is a short in the wires for the speakers C) The sound card is going bad Try testing the sound with a different set of speakers, if it still happens it may be the sound card. Might want to get a second opinion though before you buy a new sound card incase it is a different piece of hardware malfunctioning Hope I helped  ... lunchbox456
How old is the sound card? It almost sounds like a sound card problem, or speakers.
Greatsilverwyrm
Everything is new, Dell, bought about 3 or 4 months ago.
Silver_Dragon
Borrow some working speakers from somebody and see if those speakers have the same problem as the old speakers.
Hannibal
To me, it sounds like something magnetic / metallic is causing interference... but I'd guess you checked that already? (presuming, of course, that you can actually physically access the pc - I dunno where your grandma lives (as in, how far from you)) Other than that, my guess would be that the soundcard is fudged (if other speakers / headphones don't make a difference)
