dragoncmd
This is a bit different from most posts in the liberary. I want to ask how runescape and the runescape community has shaped you, wheter online or in "real-life". (I am using in game names only) I started playing runescape when my friend Toxlc introduced me to it in fall of 2004. Up until this point I had no expierence with MMO games. Toxlc got me started and gave me my first set of iron armor allowing me to jump into the game. My first obsession was mining, and my first piece of rune equiptment was a rune pickaxe. I used the incomming from mining to buy my set of adamant armor, leading to my first lesson. I was standing around Varrock (amazing that I can still remember the names of cities) soon after buying my new armor when I fell for a "jagex blocks your password" scam. I quickly logged out and changed my pass before any real damage could be done, and I vowed never to fall for a scam again. In every game I have played since, I have looked up the various forms of scamming before gettign too far into the game, so that I would be prepared and not fall for somethign so stupid again. Runescape also allowed me into an online community, namely tip.it. I made friends that showed me other (and in my opinion better) games after they stopped playing. I started playing Kingdom of Loathing, Darkthrone, Knight Online, and started reading Order of the Stick all because of links on tip.it. Runescape also taught me much about online etiquete (spelling?) that I have carried with me in the numerous mmo's I have played since. (Currently I am playing Guild Wars and Kingdom of Loathing. I can be found every once in awhile in rs and knights online.) Pm me if you need anything proof-read, I may not be very good, but I am always willing to help.A Seal Clubber is me!A Oxygenarin is me!6*9=
archimage_a
Gordon Bennet...Lets see I assume you want other people to post? Well lets see I started... roughly...about 7 years ago? maybe. So thats about 2000-2001. I started quite unexpectedly withjust opening this game that completely lagged out the computer but for a while it was alright so I got into it. By into it of course I mean that I walked around till(Remember this was a long time ago and I have no idea what I was doing) I think I can to Falador and there were two silver looking bars on the floor(Probably Steel but yeah...) and I picked them up to look at them(got lost on the side bar and never found them) and ended up getting shouted at by the guy who said he needed them. So I gave them to him(hey I was alot younger...just over half my life ago). I then went over to(I THINK) Rimmington mining area. Now this was a long time ago and I had a bronze pick, so I saw a Gold nugget on the floor next to a gold looking rock. 2+2=4. I grabbed the nugget and savagely attacked the rock for the best part of 10 minutes, till someone finally came over and told me I needed a higher mining level. So being nice I gave him the nugget(Which in hindsight is like giving a potato to a level 100). So anyway my escapades lead me to Port Sarim(please remember that I didn't know what they where called at the time) where I brought passage to Karamanja and my computer lagged out completely.(By funny coincidence it was also dinner time). So anyway long ramberling introduction to my introduction to RS. What did I learn from all of that? Well to be honest not a great deal, I just decided that I didn't want to ever play Runescape again because it lagged out my computer. But I did set up alot of important points in my life: When people want something, and you don't need it, give it to them. If someone helps you help them anyway you can. And just help people in general. Of course there was another event, and I am not sure when it was, but it was before runescape 2 came out(I when though a few phases the one up top was the first time I logged on). Where H.A.M is there was a house and I remember collecting a great number of useless things, because I had them I wanted to get rid of them so I set up a shop there. Offering passers by 10 gp a day to advertise it(don't be fooled it was not worth alot back then) But anyway the main point of the story was that I set out all my items(on the floor and stood in the doorway(raise your hand if you see a flaw with that)) anyway someone came passed and as you would expect started picking the stuff up. I had less than skillful typing skills and so after about 20 seconds I managed to get out 'Stop it!' which they did. Then all the other items started disappearing. Nowadays I know why but as always 2+2=4 and I started shouting at the guy again. So he gave the stuff he had back. And I pretty much learned on that day that Communism was what really worked. Obvouisly not that exact incident but all of those events taught me something about the world and I came to the conclusion that Communism simply worked. There are loads of other things that happened but nothing seems important. Never been scammed. Oh except this one time. I wasn't actually scammed but you know. I was walking though Varrock(this was about 6 months ago) and someone ran up to me and started shouting 'I am gonna report you unless you give me free stuff!!!' although it was slightly less well put than that. So using my diplomatic skill I talked to him and eventually he said he needed help and so I went to the bank and spent a few hours helping him. He then never logged in again.(which was a kick in the teeth but yeah... From that I just learnt that some people are just like normal people...rather than put effort in they prefer to stay in their safe zone. Other reported times include me telling someone I would not sell MY Dragon Dagger(P++) for less than a 100K. Why? Because it is my dagger and if I sell it in the middle of a quest then I have to spend hours finding another one. For that I have been reported about 4 times. From that I have learnt something and it is summed up in a quote: Written laws are like spiders webs. It is true that they will snare the weak but powerful will just rip through them. I have learnt that the rules have to be correctly applied. If you just report people you don't like then it is only when you attack someone who don't know what they are doing that it works. Anyway enough of me. Carry on. http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.
