Replacing a host or server in a wireless network...plz help

plz dont yell at me if i dont supply enough information im sorry. anyways here goes. my set up currently is a computer that i want to replace which is my host or server. i have a wireless router connecting to a wireless laptop. also have a printer. now if i were to basically take out my existing computer and put a new one in waht would i have to do to the network? the computer i currently have as my host has windows 2k on it if that helps..the laptop has win xp home. i also have dsl. someone plz help and no flaming. ty

Well it depends how your transciever on the existing computer operates. If it operates via USB, then you should just be able to plug it in and Windows will recognize it. If it connects via ethernet, you will need to establish drivers (downloadable from the CD that should of come with the transciever.)

From what I make out, you have a computer acting as a router and all your other computers are hooked up to it... and you want to replace it? Or what.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Try to be as clear as possible.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

So, can't you just hook your computer up directly to a router?

i want to replace my server with the new computer. not just add a new computer to the network.

Well you have to have intnernet sharing and stuff enabled forthat I believe, and that can be found in control panel > administrative toosl > services >

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Other than that I am not 100% sure as I have never had to do it myself but I know it can be done, as my friend has accomplished it at his house
