We have a different punishment for getting caught chewing gum: a ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâã1 fine. It's not very smart because the parents end up paying and there's so much admin for the teachers (they have to fill in a form to hand in somewhere and then give a copy to you, which you have to get signed by the secretary to confirm you've paid, and then someone has to check on the lists for anybody who hasn't paid, then they have to catch you up and the cycle begins again...) that they generally just warn you, even if you get caught in consecutive classes.

 

For those reasons, loads of the people at my school chew gum all the time. But I don't do it because it distracts me, unlike some people for whom (they claim) chewing gum helps them concentrate.
