So how do you like them apples? Or this layout?

This is how I was thinking to have the new portal for Kvurple.com. The problem is that both I and the other members of Kvurple.com's staff think that there is something that doesn't fit right with the layout. I would say that there is something about the colours.

What do you think would improve this layout, comparing to the old one?

After taking a whole different direction, the site now looks a little more like this:

My god my eyes they burn.

Scrape this thing immediately and go back to the basics of design. Or, at least get rid of the damn tree picture -- why would you ever have something so complicated as a background?

First layout: I agree with Nadril - the background (tree picture) DEFINITELY has to go. Never, ever, ever have a complicated image/photograph as a background. It is way too distracting and just unattractive. You can have a simple design, but I think it's best to always keep the background as simple as possible. Stick with plain colours and maybe add a design at the bottom or in one of the corners if you really want to.. But don't over-do it.

I really feel like you just need to take a whole different direction. The first layout just doesn't flow at all. Nothing lines up properly and your eyes have no focus point so it just looks like a big mess. The second layout still isn't great, but I think it's better than the first one. Yes it's simple, but at least it has a structure that makes sense. I would recommend looking at a few well known websites just to see how they're organized. Don't copy them, but get a sense of structure and appearance.

There's not much else I can say without designing the layout for you, but just try experimenting a little and post your progress so we can give you more comments/criticism/advice.

Thanks for the... Constructive criticism, Nadril.

And thank you very much for your detailed feedback, Tripsis.

I have now taken a whole different direction, and the site now looks a little more like this:

It is said that this is a lot better than those other two layouts, so I updated to this. I plan on releasing more colour-skins in the same layout(the tree layout was never released). Please suggest what other colours that should be added.

Your newest layout looks much better than the previous two - nice job :) In terms of colour suggestions I just have one comment: keep the colours subtle and don't pick anything too bright. The colour you have currently is a good example of what I mean. For future additions, just don't have a bright orange or yellow, etc. If you want to pick those colours, just tone it down a bit.
