Anti-Aliasing

Featured Replies

Hello folks,

As you all know, RSHD officially came out of beta and is in full release and with it comes more options on the Graphics menu. One of those is "Anti-aliasing and I am just curious to know, what does this really do to the graphics. It seems that when I have it off, the pictures are more clear. Thank.

Anti-aliasing is a method of smoothing out "rough" edges in the game. The reason that your pictures look more "clear" with it off is because the image is sharper. With the anti-aliasing on, the sharp edges with smooth together to form a rounded edge. The hair on my player, for example, is more [bleep]y when I have anti-aliasing off. When I have it on, the hair is smoother and less edges are distinguishable. 4x compared to 2x is just more smoothness. I suppose anti-aliasing is a personal preference. I choose to have it on (4x) because for me it makes the landscape look more natural, rather than a straight, boxlike, programmed look.

Good place to see the effect: bowstrings. On weilded bows. Windowed mode, it;s VERY noticable.

In 4x, it's a smooth bowstring as it should be.

With ant-aliasing off, it's like a roughly cobbled together line of random light pixels.
