Vista Firefox crashing if I try to load RS (HD and standard)

Featured Replies

I stopped playing Runescape shortly before the HD update--mostly due to a buildup of work and a desire to learn Python--but I recently wanted to begin playing somewhat regularly again. I first selected the HD option (running Vista), but Firefox crashed before anything in the applet showed up--the bar with the 'world select' features and so on loaded, however. I figured that this may be to do with the graphics card, especially since I am more or less stuck to using a laptop for the forseeable future (there is a desktop available, and I will try that, but I'm not able to access it that frequently), so I tried standard detail--the same happened.

I went on to try both detail levels using Ubuntu, which I have dual-booted with Vista, but I got a gripe about a missing rscache directory--usually, I'd play with unsigned Java on Ubuntu because of this (I haven't been able to fix it), but I can't find a way of changing the Java type after the HD update. If anyone can tell me how to change the Java type (especially when I think you need SUN Java with Linux) or fix the rscache gripe, please tell me.

I have yet to try using Opera or reinstalling Java, but is there anything else that it could be (I really should have done both of those things before, I know; sorry :\)?

Alright, so to begin with, I'll need some specifications. Can't solve this problem without at least that.

As far as the missing rscache goes, if you *really* have to, then open a command prompt and type "mkdir .jagex_cache_32". It'll be set with your permissions. Then, to change the default Java, go to RuneScape -> Play Now -> Java Options. You can change it from there.

...Alright, the Elf City update lured me back to RS over a year ago.
