My mic is recording audio even when its off - help please?

Featured Replies

I'm trying to record with my mic but when i record it works and i can record me talking but when i put music on (from the pc) it records that, even if the sound is going to headphones, it even records what my speakers are playing when the mic is unplugged.

Can someone please help me get it separate?

It sounds to me like you have the sound routed internally to your recorder.

Which OS? I wouldn't know how to do it in XP, unless there's some sort of sound control panel where you can set the default mic. In that case, just disable the device that's recording the sound.

Well, as long as you set it to show disabled devices, you can re enable it.

And anyway, this is the device you don't want to be recording.

It sounds like you have selected "What you hear" as the recording source, if you just want to record from the mic, you should just select Microphone as the recording source. To select your recording source open the audio mixer by double clicking on the little speaker icon in the system tray. If you just get a single volume control then double click it again until you open up the full mixer. Alternatively, you can open up the mixer by typing sndvol32 into the run box and pressing enter.

Click Options and select Properties.

Select Recording and click OK.

The mixer has now turned into the input mixer, you can now select the input device and how loud you want the input to be.
