setting up a new laptop

Featured Replies

right, just got my hands on a new laptop, and there might be a few problems I encounter along the way whilst getting it up and running.

first things first; how can I transfer my bookmarks / settings / addons for firefox from one PC to another?

For your firefox bookmarks you can use this guide or get a firefox addon that backs them up to a server.

ok, that seems simple enough. atm I'm transferring all my data onto a portable HDD, so I'll put the html file onto there.

is there any way on vista to make the desktop icons less OMGWTFHUGE??!?

also, steam seems to be messing with the windows aero (or whatever it is) thing that gives you a little preview of the window when you hover over the taskbar.

Steam doesn't get the areo window or atleast it doesn't for me.

Here is how you would change the vista icons(very simple couldn't find out though i know how to do it just not on my vista machine atm currently on an XP machine at school).

http://www.onecomputerguy.com/vista_tips.htm#icon_size[/url]":3q4liw9w]1. Right click on the Desktop

2. Select View

3. Set it to Classic Icons

You can also hold down the Control key while the desktop is displayed

Use the wheel mouse to make the icons larger or smaller

This gives more control
