Help with my internet connection.

Well I have DSL and it suppose to be connected to the internet when I turn on my computer. Recently, about 50% of the time it doesn't come on and I turn off my modem and turn it back on but it doesn't work. I have to turn off my computer and turn it back on. Sometimes I have to restart it a third time.

 

 

 

Even while on the internet, it acts wierd. Sometimes when I change worlds on RuneScape it it acts really slow and sometimes loses connection. I'm kind of thinking it's my modem but I don't know. Maybe it can have to do with my computer? I bought my computer a couple months ago so it's not old and it's a pretty good computer.

If not, what software do you use to connect? What OS are you running?

 

 

 

How is the modem attached to your computer assuming you don't have a router (ubs,ethernet)?

I don't have a router. I am running Windows XP.

 

 

 

It's connected to my computer through ethernet.

if are running your net through a lan or ethernet card and the lights confirming power and a stable adsl connection are shown on your modem try goin to device manager locating you device on here then selecting the power managment tab unselect allow my computer to turn off this device to save power, this fixed my problem

Yeah it says I have internet. Even when my computer is off and I leave the modem on the internet light is still on. Where is device manager located?

control panel->system->(hardware tab in xp)->device manager
