This should clear things up. You get xp in construction by building stuff for your house (rugs, chairs, flat-packs - though unloading them yields no experience). It's a very costly skill, but making the right things (ex: lvl 40-60s usually make oak larders for xp) can make you on the upper end of the xp/cash line.
