New video card?!?!

Featured Replies

Well, its been 3 years since I got my computer. After launching hl2, and waiting for what seemed an eternity, I've finally decided to get a new video card.

I am considering the Sapphire atlantis 9800 Pro, (w/256megs of RAM), and I was wondering what you guys thought of it.

I run a 2ghz P4 w/512 RAM...

Anyways, if i shouldn't get this card, what should i get? Is it worth it to shell out a bit more money for a 6600? (Im paying 260 CDN, tax included)

6600 as in geforce 6600??

you can now get twin 6600's so that they each only have 2 manage half the screen and since there so cheap atm its worth it

Aussie Aussie Aussie,

:D

I could..except that my mobo doesn't support SLI, and for that money, i would be better off getting a 7800... :(

If the 9800Pro with 256 mb ram is cheaper than the ordinary Geforce 6600, then yes. I would suggest a Geforce 6600GT when looking at cards in the near price range though, but it depends on how cheap they are from the store you're looking at.

SLI doesn't work like that, it doesn't render half the screen per card because the workload would be unbalanced. It also isn't worth it at all. You can get a 6800GT for the price of two 6600GT's, and that will still be a better card.

Well, I'm looking to spend around 300 CDN...

And the 6600 im looking at is a gigabyte 6600 GT.

After looking at the benchmarks, im leaning towards the gt....

ummm... if yur willing to spend that much i would get a x800 XL

Keep in mind that I'm canadian...300 CDN doesnt go nearly as far as 300USD would...

Anyways, is it worth it to shell out even more for a vanilla x800?
