similar just in the basic structure though. what program are you using for your fractals? i'm curious as it almost seems like your render settings are set kinda low. I like most of your fractals, the coloring is done really well on them, with the bright spots in good locations and all that. the only thing i can really say i would find wrong with them (besides possibly the render settings) is the lack of variety. they all mostly look similar. try varying your style a bit more, other than that i think you're doing great!

I use gimp, I have apothosis(w/e) but don't get it.

I think the second one looks cool :thumbsup: I know absolutely nothing about fractals so unfortunately I can't really provide you with any suggestions/constructive criticism :ohnoes:

 

 

 

I guess one thing I can say is that they almost look... broken up I guess? For example, evil_mumm_ra's looks like a bunch of lines strung together, whereas yours almost looks like a bunch of thiny dots strung together. Does that make sense? I don't know if that was the look you were going for or just how the program works (because again, I know nothing about fractals), but I personally don't really think I like it. They just look very 'speckled' I guess. I suck at describing this :wall:

how do you get the fractal then? you can do that in gimp? interesting, i didn't know that.

 

 

 

with apophysis there are numerous guides online to get started. all i did to get started with it was mess with the triangle editor, and mess with numbers until i have something that looks cool. that's the easy part, you don't really have to understand anything to do it. then i choose the gradient i want, etc. i basically just mess with the program till i have something that looks cool. i understand it better now than i did at first, but that's just from messing with different settings and reading tutorials and stuff. look on deviantart for some apophysis tutorials/groups and stuff. they help a lot.

hmm, with apophysis, what are your render settings? in order to get good high quality renders (although they will take a long time, mine take anywhere from 2-4 hours usually) the quality setting should be at 2000 or 4000, preferably 4000, you'll get less pixelation when they are zoomed in, or enlarged, filter of 0.4, and oversample of 2. now i'm not sure what the filter and oversample do, but when i do a test render, i set the quality down to like 200 or 500 depending on how clear i want it, and filter stays the same. oversample i set to 1. then i do a small sample size, like 514x348 or whatever the hell it is. that's a good small test render for how the final product will look, then you can make changes and do the large final render at whatever size you want.

I wasn't rendering... I was using fullscreen, Printscreen.

ah, see that's the problem. the difference between fullscreen and a render is this:

notice all the dots, and the different background color and all that.

notice how smooth it looks and how brighter the colors seem, the new background color, and how everything just seems neater? rendering is well worth the time spent.

Apophysis is easy, you don't HAVE to write scripts, you can modify stuff from a random batch.

 

 

 

Anyway, I think you need to make the render quality higher because there is so much noise I can see.

i don't write any scripts. i just modify the random batch, or select the variation i wanna mess with.

 

 

 

and yeah, he's not rendering his, he's clicking the fullscreen button, and then hitting prt scr. >.>

So wait, do I just let it render then what? Grab the save?

it'll automatically save the picture to the path you choose in the render window, you just navigate to that folder, and upload to devart or wherever from that folder. the render times are long though, which is why i recommend rendering while you sleep or while you go somewhere else. with apophysis 2.08 beta 2 or the 3d hack, it will render it with a transparent background, you just go in gimp or photoshop or whatever and add a background layer with the color you want and save it like that.

your size is a lot smaller than mine as well. and i'm willing to bet that my triangles have more calculations and all that stuff. adds up to a huge render time. although i do like the dome one. although a black background is much better. maybe try getting the dome to actually be a dome of color or with some design? it's all not really that colorful. hmm, or maybe adjust the scale option so you are zoomed closer on the dome. it is a good fractal though.

for my test renders to see how they will look, i do

 

size: 600x375

 

quality: 200 or 500

 

filter radius: 0.4

 

oversample: 1

 

 

 

and they are 2-4 minutes.

 

 

 

for my full renders i do

 

size: 1680x1050

 

quality: 4000

 

filter radius: 0.4

 

oversample: 2

 

 

 

and they are 2-4 hours.
