username388
I'm having a problem playing RuneScape and I cannot figure it out. Whenever I go to play RuneScape I have to download the whole game again. It says loading title screen, then loading game code, etc. I have JRE 1.5.0_01. I'm running Windows 98 SE. I haven't changed anything big really since it started happening. It started the day farming came out. There was the farming update so I had to download it all, there was an update, so it was normal. I got off and got on later that day and I had to load the game again, but I thought Jagex just fixed something and it was just an update. Then I was busy for about a week and didn't play RuneScape for a while and didn't realize that it was my computer till about a week and a half later. I did Download JDK 1.5.0_04 about a week earlier, but it worked fine for a week before I experienced this problem. I have to go now, but help would be greatly appreciated. If you need any other information, just ask. I play using the official RS Client. EDIT:I'm back now and have a little more time to finish this post. I cleared all my temporary internet files and cookies in Internet Explorer and Firefox thinking maybe there was a file in there that didn't get properly downloaded, so the game thought there was an update everytime I played, but that didn't help. My Java is working fine for other programs, and I also tried changing the java applet used to play the game, but that also didn't help. I played Runescape Classic and it had to download (I cleared my temporary internet files). I then tested it by going back to the main menu, then opened up Runescape Classic again, and it did not need to download, so the problem is only with Runescape 2. I heard of a few other people also having this problem after the farming update, but it works fine for most people and at my dads house it works fine too. I have not installed any new software or hardware, or updated anything that I can remember since the problem start or right before it (except JDK). My anti-virus and anti-spyware are up to date, and I scan regularly. I have Norton System works 2005 and Spybot Search and Destroy, if you are wondering. I also have Norton Personal Firewall, also up to date. I have dial-up (yes, I know) here and it is very frustrating to have to wait 10 minutes just to change worlds. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Tempter
Hey Username388, I can probably help you, I just dont quite understand the problem. What do you mean RuneScape has to download every time you play? Do you get a "RuneScape has Updated, please refresh this page" error? If not, please tell me exactly what it says. Also, the JDK is a software development kit, used for writing programs in Java. What you should get is the Java Runtime Enviornment 1.5.0_4 (update 4), which is the latest and most stable version, and you are using update 1. If you want to update your JRE to update 4, jsut go to My Computer>Add or Remove Programs> and then Remove J2SE Runtime Enviornment 5.0 Update 1. Now go to the following link to download the latest version: https://sdlcweb4b.sun.com/ECom/EComActi ... 6E6784D31C
username388
Right now I have JRE 1.5.0_01. I know it's not the newest, but it works (or worked fine) now and update 4 has no big changes. Plus I have to use another computer to download it, since my computer has dial-up it times out when I try to download the 110+ mb file. And I know JDk is for writing programs, not playing games, I just said that since that was the biggest change I could think of and had to do with java. Now the error I'm getting is not actually an error. I can play Runescape (no reload this page, the game updated message), but I have to download the files as if there was an update every single time I play. Like it has a black screen saying loading title screen, that loads (the normal flames and Runescape Logo appear), then it says loading 3D models, loading sounds, etc. Usually it just says unpacking models, unpacking sounds, etc. if there is no update, but I have to download the whole game everytime. Like none of the game files will stay in my cache.

username388
I was at my dad's house this weekend so I didn't have time to try emptying me .file_store_32 folder, but I did and it worked. Thank you very much Karvinen.
