The beginners section of the summoning guide states that granite crabs are the most cost-effective exp for beginners, but spirit mosquitoes give a much larger amount of exp, with a smaller shard cost.

 

 

 

I know it requires either a larger cash investment, or greater time investment to find the probiscis needed, but it is a much better way to use the cgold charms at a low level to raise summoning.

The summoning potion also restores the special move bar of your familiar at a rate of 15 special move points per 1 dose of summoning potion.

I agree...I focused only on mosquitos. True, you have to kill a lot of them, but for lower level players, you can gain lots of levels quickly once you hit the level needed.

 

 

 

In fact, except for quests needing specific pouches and summons, those are the only ones I've created at all...and I'm up to level 43 (with only a few weeks help from Tears of Guthix, though hunting, until I focused to get the spotted cape, took turns with summoning in earning experience).
