I stopped playing a few days after the Hunter skill came out. Just recently came back, and I don't have anything to start up with (no armor, weapons, money, etc). Anyone have any suggestions as to what I can or should do? Are there any quests that I should do to get the benefits? Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated, I'm currently just cutting yews.

Do all the quests. It'll take you a while, is fun, and you'll learn about all the new updates and such since you left.
