August 19, 200520 yr I'm asking you all a favour - don't just see this topic as another meaningless post you have to spew your opinions out to - see it as a chance to broaden your horizons. Since the creation of electronic instruments, there is a subgenre for absolutely every sound arrangement available, from Experimental Sinewave Manipulation (music based upon the idea of manipulating the sine waveform to create weird and wonderful sounds) to Speedcore (a subgenre of hardcore rave music ranging from 200-9999bpm and beyond) - for many, music is not just what you listen to, it's how you live. Some of the richest and most famous people in the world would still be working at Woolworths had it not been for music, and even Woolworths would have a considerable chunk of their sales taken should music not exist - entire cultures are based around a style of music, and so it's time we gave some appreciation to music a little more out of the ordinary. So, in short, tell us about some weird music you've heard of. You don't even have to like it - but someone out there might. I want to introduce to you two artists, the first being a heavy metal/drum n bass crossover artist known solely as Hive. His self-proclaimed masterpiece, devious methods, is probably one of the most incredible things i've ever heard. Hive blends thrash guitars with hard drum n bass breaks, movie samples and incredibly weird sound effects to create pure bliss - check him out Here - be sure to check out Ultrasonic Sound and Experiments In Synthetic Rhythm. The second, is perhaps a little less on the abstract side of things, but mindblowing non the less - and you've probably heard one or two of their tracks, either on a computer game, movie, or even an advert. Hybrid are a duo from South Wales, and their defining album "Wide Angle" - sold a total of 100,000 copies world wide. Whilst this may not seem like a high figure compared to the big shots, you've yet to hear the music. Hybrid have been a personal favourite of mine for years, from the day I heard Finished Symphony on a Ministry of Sound compilation. I fell straight in love with this track and have never looked back since - an incredible cross of orchestral soundtracks and pumping breakbeats makes for pure Welsh ear candy, not to mention talented guest vocalists and general weirdness, all crammed into 1 disc of mindblowing material - check them out Here Well, that's all i'm posting. Be sure to check them out, and post your own artists too!
August 20, 200520 yr I've heard of Hybrid myself and it was very eye opening. I was intrigued even though I didn't particularly like it. It was just something I hadn't heard anything similar to it before. If you're really an "alternative" fan, you can always try "Einfache Neubauten". These guys are weird; I mean: WEIRD. Weird with a capital W. For WTF. When studying Artaud, the drama practitioner, I was looking for contemporary paralells to them and stumbled across this...intriguing lot. It's more than 'music' its a whole performance: People jumping around with prosthetic legs coming out of their noses, the constant screams and shouts from the lead singer. It's absolutely terrifying. I'll be happy never to hear them, or of them, ever again. However, one of you pleasent people may enjoy them. It's definately music you will have never heard before. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
August 21, 200520 yr Although not as low key as your artists, I discovered Daft Punk from a friend of mine on the internet. Their music blends normal and synthesized voices with raging catchy beats and melodies. Check out "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger", "Digital Love" and "Too Long" for some cool music.
