The monster will tell you the truth about the doctor and ask you to take the Ring of Charos from the doctor. Go downstairs and pickpocket the doctor to complete the quest.

 

 

 

The monster doesn't mention the Ring of Caros; he only says that you must find a way to stop him.

 

 

 

I don't know how valid this is as proof, but I hope it helps:

The creature convinced me to stop Fenkenstrain's experiment once and for all, and has told me the true history of Fenkenstrain's treachery.

 

 

 

 

 

The monster doesn't mention how to stop him. Pickpocketing isn't mentioned. I'd suggest a change to part eight of the guide:
