(Should I have put the period on the inside of the quotes as well?) Without missing a beat, another student said "That's what she said". Mind you, everybody was pretty serious/quiet when this happened. There was at least a one second delay, then pretty much the whole class started laughing, including the teacher. It really wasn't that funny, but the timing was just perfect.Periods and commas always go inside quotation marks. Question marks and exclamation points go wherever they are needed. I.e.: Did he say "Go get that"? vs. "Would you go get that?" he asked.
