Why would he use a dragon scim or long when he can use whip+defender? And dragons are slow in terms xp (he's looking for the fastest XP)

for good xp: use whip+def. u can kill: spiders in SoS (will be quite short trip though), cockroaches (good recourse of laws), flesh crawlers, moss giants.

Just like homowz said i'd go for spiders in SoS, could also try rock crabs at a later time usually not that busy and decent exp
