What's a div? I've heard quite a bit about them, and how they let you use css to style the page, but that's all I know.

I dont know exactly what they all do. But from what I understand, the first thing you posted is the document type which will be used to check if you have valid html. the xmlns I have no idea (google it :) ), I just know it needs to be there :P

 

 

 

The meta is just to help with search engines to know what type of data the content will be, and the character set is used for browsers. The links will be used to reference CSS files later in the tutorial.
