22pepsi22
So, I'm having a problem playing Live Messenger's built in games with my buddies. My OS is Windows XP x64 Pro Edition. Live Messenger was supposedly not compatible for 64-bit Operating Systems. However, it works perfectly fine on a 64-bit OS. It worked perfectly fine in the BETA version, but, they dropped compatibility in the final version (and will for future versions) in what is assumed an attempt to make people revert back to the 32-bit OS. You can't regularly install the messenger through the Windows Installer. You just have to manually install the MSI file. Anywho, since it works perfectly fine in all other areas, I'm wondering if the fact that I am running on a 64-bit OS is the reason I can't play them. Are the games 32-bit? Or is it the connection between a 32-bit and 64-bit OS the culprit? I can send an invite, but, when they click accept, their game window comes up as blank and says it failed. My game window doesn't even come up. When they send an invite to me, it doesn't even make it to my messenger chat box. It instantly tells them the invitation has failed to be sent to me. When they sent an invite to each other, it instantly works. Thanks.
Sbrideau
You have Windows XP x64, that's the problem. Get Windows Vista x64 everything will work.
22pepsi22
Could you elaborate? As in what the problem with using XP x64 and the games is. I'm afraid I need the XP x64 Pro for other reasons.
22pepsi22
Unrelated to the topic, but, I have found a folder in my C Drive that's just a bunch of random numbers and letters like "837ys8s03jgir3754" and it has two files in it. Both files say "access is denied" when I click on them. I checked the size of the folder and it says 0 bytes, so, I'm wondering if I should delete it or not. Seems like it's something that ended up there from either a download or such and serves no purpose.
Sbrideau
Windows XP x64 has a [cabbage] load of compatibility problems, I've seen people not even able to get Windows Live Messenger to install, so you were lucky on that. That's why people recommend using Vista x64 or Windows 7 RC x64(if you don't mind using a RC), since they have no compatibility issues. Yes Microsoft was pushing towards another OS than XP x64, but it was not XP 32bit.
22pepsi22
Well you can install Windows Live on a x64 machine by simply skipping Windows Installer and manually installing the MSI file.
