Anno 1404 (Dawn of Discovery)

In the fascinating world of ANNO the player will sink into a unique building strategy game, where he sets sail in a beautiful island world to master the tricks of trade, diplomacy and economy, building up his own monumental cities. Continuous careful and elaborate planning will help fulfil his citizens needs and let his empire flourish. The upcoming ANNO 1404 will bring this award-winning building strategy series to a new level:

Discover a strange and wondrous land in the uttermost East: the Orient! This highly civilized land will provide you with endless opportunities, and with the help of your new allies your occidental cities will prosper and become mighty metropolises!

Is anyone else completely addicted to this game? It's pretty much a cross between SimCity and Age of Empires (I've been told it's similar to Civilization, which I've never played, but it's not turn based). There is combat, but it's less about strategy and more about simply having the most and best troops/warships. It's a heavy strategy and economy management game. I got it a little over a week ago and have already logged 40+ hours in it. Time flies by while playing it, too; you'll sit down for what feels like 20 min and then you hear it tell you that you've been playing for 2 hours. So, anyone else have it?

How is it? Are there multiple civilisations that you can play as? Explain a bit more, I was interested in getting this, being a fan of RTS games myself.

The sour dough of the epitmous pie hungers for another's sweet lips to be dulled into a state of most irreverant humbleness

Well, the two civilizations are Occidental and Oriental, but you don't really play them seperately. Each civilation and their citizens need goods from the other type. They are played in tandem. As you build your city, the people in it can upgrade to different levels of citizenship (peasant, citizen, patrician, and noblemen), but they require goods to satisfy their needs. Once their needs are statisfied they can upgrade. What is really unique about this game is there isn't a tech tree. If you build building X and Y, it doesn't mean you can build Z. To unlock more buildings, you need to upgrade people to higher citizenships, and the more people of a certain level, the more buildings you'll have. It's a difficult game to explain because there's an incredible amount of different content. There's the campaign mode with 6 levels, each taking multiple hours to complete. There's also scenarios which take a significant amount of time to complete as well. Not to mention the continuous gameplay. It's an incredible game and if you're even remotely interested, there's a demo here; I promise you won't be disappointed.

Thanks for the demo link mlclm
