Lag

Featured Replies

OK I am no dummy when it comes to comes to computers but this issue is beyond me.

The basic issue is Runescape lags, for no real reason, at random times. So bad is the lag, I can't do anything except woodcutting where I can idle it. It isn't just regular lag either, I will lose connection, then re-connect almost continually.

Odd thing is everything else is fine. Downloads, web browsing, streaming, World of Warcraft, everthing except Runescape.

Tells me I am getting over 4MB download speed, and it also says the ping test is excellent. To make sure I rang my ISP who says there are no issues with my connection, a fact I can confirm as only Runescape has this issue.

My computer is 6 months old, Triple Core AMD 8550 2.2gz CPU, 3GB RAM, Geforce 9200 graphics and has masses of free HDD space. It is also running the most up to date Java and is virus and spyware free.

It appears other people have this issue browsing the RSOF but no one seems to have any ideas how to remedy it.

It sometimes is OK. Friday for example my usual worlds lagged but a Canadian server was totally lag free. Seeing as I live in the UK this is pretty bizarre. However now, that same server is laggy (although still not as bad as the UK ones) i don't think the servers are the issue, my friends from The Netherlands are fine, no issues at all.

If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it!

Thanks

I have almost the exact same problem, it's fine for periods of the day then out of the blue it'll stop receiving data for a period of seconds, sometimes enough to disconnect me (but reconnect automatically as you said). However I have noticed that during this time I am still able to SEND data to the game, for example during this 'lag' I can right click drop on items and when I start receiving data again the items have been dropped. Same applies for things such as firemaking where I can still manage to do it despite the lag.

It is strange and I have yet to find a solution, it appears to only really happen during 'peak' times, but this weekend it has been pretty much unplayable other than early morning which is slightly annoying.

As far as I've found, changing server doesn't work and the lag can appear for a while then just randomly vanish. I wish I knew what was causing this as it seriously cuts back what I can do over the weekend which at the moment is basically struggle around doing a few farming runs.

Out of curiosity, who's your ISP? I'm with Sky at the moment (but overall it's a rubbish service and will be changing in February to hopefully a proper provider).

Yep exactly the same. I can also "stack" input. so cleaning herbs for example will all clean eventually.

I am with Virgin on the National Access package.

Having read the RSOF, I'm 95% sure this is an issue on Jagex's end, which is a shame, especially how I've had it for a long time now (about a month) and they've only recently started acknowledging that such a problem MIGHT exist.

Dark Dude did you manage to load today's update?

Mine has hung at "checking for updates - 20%" for a good 10 minutes now.

Yeah It's loaded fine.

What's interesting, after having updated to Java 6 Version 17 I'm having no lag this evening :o It might just be 'luck' but if it keeps up like this all evening it appears the problem was due to the (old) newest version of Java. Will have to see, but hopefully it's fixed now!
