Pray mage and use a stab weapon.

Summon a bunyip and have a few pieces of emergency food.

 

The special will only rarely disable prayers and when it does it will be dead before it does serious damage (bunyip will keep you healed).

do they hit often if i don't pray?

Yes they hit very often without prayer. Its a strong magic attack and even with full dhide they will do more damage then a bunyip will heal.
