December 18, 200916 yr So, I was trying to change the security settings for one particular part of all the files for a program (Avira Antivirus free). I'll be honest, I wasn't quite paying attention to what I was doing. I apparently have restricted my own access to the files, so now I cannot use Avira at all. I can't change the security options either - because I don't have access. :wall: I am the administrator on this computer. Anyway to gain back access to Avira? I'm on Vista. Thanks.
December 19, 200916 yr Being an admin on your system does not mean you have full rights to anything, but being an owner of a folder does. You need to take ownership of the folder: Right click on the folder and select Properties Click Securities Click Advanced Click the Owner Tab Click Edit Highlight your name in the list Tick Replace owners on subcontainers and objects Click OkayOnce this has finished, you should be able to change any and all permissions of the folder and therefore rename it.
