Quest Guides

hey i would like to discuss the tip.it quest guides.... i love tip.it, it is my favorite rs help site and i use it for everything except quests.... the reason is not because of the lack of detail or understanding in the logic in our quest guides.... it is because of the lack of photos... i know it sounds stupid but photo's can really help when you need to know which box to click on for a quest or watever.... i can't imagine it would be hard to just add photo's to a quest its just one screen shot.... I (my rs name is "Evan da POPE") do not do a lot of quests but when i do have to do them for an item i just want them to go by with ease and i realize that i like runehq's quest guides because of the photo's.... can we please add photos to help me and others with quests? im not asking a lot just a occasional photo

[Note: this is a long, texty reply, which is what we are trying to avoid in our guides! lol]

We actually have been working very hard in the last six months to get more images into our guides. Although we have a policy of avoiding unnecessary images (like the "quest complete" screen from the game, since we list the rewards and all), adding images is one of the current Crew's number one goals.

One of our difficulties is that most of the crew have already done the quest, and many useful things cannot be revisited afterwards. So we need users like you to take a picture of something you find useful! The Crew is always short on mappers, so people who demonstrate skill by posting new maps in our Website Updates forum will get a LOT of crew interest.

Myself, I try to include two things: maps and puzzles. I figure there's no point showing you a picture of Olaf on the beach ... once you've found him, you'll know what he looks like, so the picture isn't helpful. How and Where to find him IS helpful.

However, quest guides that were written a good while ago do not meet these standards, so fixing them up is a process that takes time. We've made F2P quests a heavy priority, since so many players are F2P. Of course, now Jagex is buffing their in-game F2P quest information, lol. Jagex is just now providing information that Tip.It has been providing for ten years!

Here are some examples of our F2P quest Crewbie's efforts: he recently added maps to the Prince Ali quest guide. It shows where every NPC is, so that a player who's just arrived in Lumbridge can find Hassan, Leela, and the other NPCs. Will a bunch of pictures of those NPCs in their houses help? (Such as those provided on Another Fansite?) Not so much.

Another recently buffed guide: Romeo and Juliet. Again, a new player isn't going to know where these places are. Another Fansite only shows pictures of the NPCs *after* you find them.

Another F2P quest: Witch's Potion. It shows where a new player can find the ingredients.

I realise that many of our forum users have already done the old F2P quests, so they aren't seeing these changes. I also realise that pictures throughout the guide break up the text steps. We are working on making our guides less wordy and texty, and breaking things up more.

I hope you can bear with us, and again, please feel free to submit helpful PNG format pictures (where to find something, how to do something) for older quests in our Website Updates forum. We will be happy to use them and give you credit on the website!

it's a lot easier to get over yourself when you look at intelligence the same way you look at beauty, or height, or eye color: being smart is easy, but being good is hard ... being smart is handed to you, being good is handed to *nobody*.
