What you should train is what you enjoy. This is a game, so do what you like.

Well I'd get started on farming right away. It's easy money with very little effort as soon as you can grow ranarrs or toadflax. There are better herbs at higher levels, but that should get you started.

A lot of people, myself included, enjoy slayer. It's not the best way to train, make money, or get charms; however, it's quite fun. Try it and see if you like it.

You'll also want to start working on summoning, it's very useful! You'll need charms to train it, though. If you want to get some you could kill some cockroach soldiers - they're pretty decent for a lower level.

As for equipment, you should get a rune defender. It's hands down the best shield for training in the game. You should also do Recipe for Disaster to unlock the better gloves to replace the combat bracelet. Ring of Wealth is basically useless, but until you can buy a better ring it doesn't hurt. Aim for an abyssal whip when you feel you can afford it - it's the best weapon in the game.

Whatever you decide to merchant, DON'T do clan merchanting. You'll get screwed and regret it. I won't tell you specific items, but you should look for items that are relatively stable and don't have sudden large price rises and crashes. These items should have predictable patterns of rising and falling, and you should use the history graphs to predict.
