Amateur attempt at photography

Featured Replies

I don't have a fancy camera, just my canon powershot.

photos were cropped and slightly contrasted in photoshop, so it's my attempt at photography for various scenes on my travel.(Mainly D.C.)

Please give your advice on how to make myself a better photographer, I still have a ton to learn.

You don't need a big fancy DSLR camera to take photos. While they are nice to own, a simple point and shoot will actually be better for you than a DSLR. Plus, you can find what medium you like doing (Macro, landscape, etc)

I'm not sure if your camera can, but don't shoot in Auto mode. Use the manual features (Such as shutter speed) if it has it, or turn the dial to what would look best. For your second shot, it would have looked better if you had used Macro mode.

If your camera has it, use the Rule of the Thirds display mode. It will mean that you can take better photos.

One thing you need to work on is your focal point. This being the thing you want the viewer to look at. Some of your photos have it, and some don't.

Now, for C/C:

1: It's a nice snap shot, but I don't know what to focus on in to.

2: As I stated before, you should have used Macro mode. Focus to infinity is nice in same cases, but not here. Good job on the focal point though.

3: It has quite nice atmosphere to it, but the way it is composed makes the black car kinda ruin the photo. That's just me though.

4: I like this. You're breaking the rule's, which makes it good.

5: There's conflicting focal points here, which isn't good.

6: I like this one. It has a nice atmosphere, and looks warm.

7: What am I looking at :(

8: This could be really good with a few magic touches in Photoshop.

All in all, good job, I look forward to seeing you progress :)

My relaxation method involves a bottle of lotion, beautiful women, and partial nudity. Yes I get massages.
