Hand in the Sand: one less trip to make

I just completed Hand in the Sand. There is a lot of travelling in this quest, but quite by accident I found one less trip to make, and it was actually because I misread the quest guide. When I visited Sandy the first time, I read the quest guide, and it says, "Search the desk", I thought I was supposed to search Sandy as well. The option came up to pickpocket him, and I did. So I obtained not only the rota but the pocketful of sand on that first visit. When I got to Betty in Port Sarim I read:

 

9. Talk to Betty again, and she will tell you to stand in the doorway with the lens. Walk over to the doorway, and stand on the inside. Then use the Rose Tinted Lens with the Counter. You will be given an incomplete Truth Serum. To complete it, you need something of Sandy's.

10. Now you will need to go back to Brimhaven and pickpocket Sandy. If you can't get the sand pickpocketed from him, investigate and examine him and try again.

11. Return to Betty with the sand. You will receive the completed Truth Serum.

 

So what I am suggesting is that you can get the sand from Sandy the first time you visit him in Brimhaven, you don't have to go back and forth from Port Sarim to Brimhaven to get it.

 

I am sorry I can't confirm with a pic, because as I say, I only did this by accident!

This info is correct. it can be done with out going back to the island.

This has been confirmed - You are able to pickpocket Sandy after you search the desk.
