Firstly I assume that you mean $1500 USD... More detail on the kind of multimedia you plan to do would be nice..

Your specefic requirements might benefit from the use of Dual core CPU*, and the best dual cores are made by AMD. Something like this should work.

It is quite easy to build your own... Here is a very breif idea.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ $500

Epox 9PNA Ultra motherboard $105

250GB Hard Drive - OEM $100

XFX Geforce 7800GT $309

CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) $73

Case : $70

PSU: ENERMAX Noisetaker 485W $76

Microsoft Windows XP Media Center 2005 - OEM $115

CD / DVD Drives/writer: $50

Total: $1400 ($100 spare for postage ect)

(I might have forgotten several things, and ummm all parts might not be compatiable, but I do not see any obvious problems....)

for your old PC, chuck in a TV tuner card, and maybe a DVB decorder card and turn it into a media box to play/record TV.

* If you do not plan to do multi-tasking much, a single core CPU might be better. Only a few selected software benefit from dual core.
