AThousandLies
Anybody heard of these guys? They're this weird, weird experimental group formed in the early 80's who combine noise, ambience, industrial, spoken word and neo-folk. They were pretty influential in the whole underground industrial scene; although they lack contemporary instruments and rather use a whole variety of devices to create beats and whatnot; whereas modern industrial bands like NIN and Marilyn Manson have the standard instrumental format. The music is really hard to describe ... but the people involved attempted to incorporate religion, magicks and philosophy into music - not through lyrics about Jesus or Satan, but somehow they attempted to emote this divinitive feeling through music. It's really quite impressive, especially if you check out Batwing (A Limnal Hymn), which showcases the vocal ability and the beauty of the poetry used (as they're not song they're not really lyrics). They're not around anymore as John Balance died about a year ago, but their last album (which was recorded in the final days of Balance's life), "The Ape Of Naples", was released a bit over a week ago. I'd say these guys are really worth checking out if you're into ambient, trance, industrial or any other part of the underground goth scene.
