I thought it would be worth adding into the Quest help--

 

Apparently, you cannot start the quest, "The Path of Glouphrie," if you have started "Tree Gnome Village" without completing it.

 

If this is the case, it simply gives you the dialogue that you need to return the orbs. (Part of the Tree Gnome Village quest)
