Guest Rob
So, I recently got ubuntu on my laptop. I'm on dial up, so I need an external modem to connect to the internet. (It's a 56k USB fax modem)The only problem is that ubuntu won't locate it. Can someone help me out? (I'm positive the usb slot, or the modem isn't broken, as it will work with windows on the same laptop.) Any suggestions?

lordkafei
Sounds like a Winmodem (softmodem) to me. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=308098 I ran into the same problem when I tried Ubuntu. It didnt like my modem and I would have needed to buy a driver to use it under Ubuntu.
