SpoonyJank
In the RS description of mage armor it says mages need freedom of movement to do the right hand move to cast a spell or whatever... yet a warrior might also want to delicately slit someones throat instead of bludgeoning someone to death with a granite maul. Anyways I just think its cliche that fighting with a weapon means you should wear plate armor and be all knightly and whatnot. No style. I think there should be some type of assassin's armor that has somewhat dissapointing defense but gives bonuses to attack in slash and stab. Not crush though, because it doesn't seem very assassin-like. Basicly like how dragonhide gives rangers a bonus. I'm guessing it would replace dragonhide for melee people that switch to dragonhide to take on mages. It may as well have the same stats as black dragonhide (maybe slightly better) except it gives attack bonuses to slash and stab instead of range (and probably not as big of a bonus) It could also have transparency like ghost robes. you know, all silent and swift and whatnot. It should be a set effect; but I don't know if it should require a weapon (like barrows) or not since the attack bonuses would already encourage something that isn't too awkward looking. Maybe make the set effects work only without a shield or two-handed weapon. Katana swords (those are the samurai types right?) are two-handed and would make it similar in concept to the barrows set effects. It could have some agility requirement or maybe even a slayer requirement since those seem like assassin-type things... Also a defense requirement since it would obviously be a pure's wet dream. It would decrease the advantage that it seems like mages have in P2P since warriors are their primary targets... but then it would also make warriors weaker to rangers so it might help rangers out too but i doubt that. the below paragraph is stuff i wouldn't expect to happen yet i still think are nice ideas something that would be a pain to implement but would also be nice would be if the set effect included the ability to run a tiny bit faster or maybe make energy regenerate faster (like agility does) or maybe like the effect of boots of lightness have. Another unlikely thing would be to make shuriken type throwing weapon which you can equip in the shield spot and throw with some special click or something... or let the set effect allow you to do that with darts and throwing knives. this effect would make it so you wouldn't want to bypass the range skill even though dragonhide would be worth less to warriors now. Of course that would make these guys kill mages really easy. I can't tell whether it would be fair or not. If they get entangled they could just throw a poison dart to distract them, eat something, adjust your prayers, use a potion or two or whatever, untill you're ready to chase them down with superior speed. so in a nutshell... a black, partially transparent outfit consisting of a torso part leg part, a head part (covering the face) and maybe hand/foot/weapon parts. with defense stats similar to black dragonhide (maybe slightly better) and attack bonuses for slash and stab. Also some type of energy bonus if running faster is impossible to implement or grossly unfair. requirements in agility and defense. I think it would make the P2P wilderness triangle slightly more fair. Yes I am jealous because my mage sucks. What does everyone else think? Which parts are ridiculous and which are good? ancient1
i like ur assasin idea, fighting with skill instead of strength, i like it all apart from when you suggest mages should be barehanded to cast spells
SpoonyJank
i was just saying mage armor is pretty useless for defense (except splitbark) because its supposed to be light and leave mages free to move to be able to cast their spells successfully (or some such nonsense). Like how you can't wear plate armor and cast anything successfully. but I figure this should apply to melee combat as well. like if a guy in real life in full armor with a huge battle axe were to fight someone with nothing much but a dagger they would have a hard time hitting them. the armorless guy could also be free to have some finesse in his attack and actually land a lot more blows. although they would do a lot less damage unless he weaseled a dagger into some hole the armor had or something... and he would be able to run whenever he wanted. if they did get hit though it would certainly be fatal. not that I'd not to take on some medieval knight or anything; just saying, its not the be-all end-all of armed combat. guns, cannons and its cost weren't the only reason it wasn't popular for very long. Yes I know its a videogame, but plate armor was only really ever for the exceptionally rich who only ever really wanted to be safe while they watched others battle. I think the way armor/defense works is kind of weird. it affects the how often you get hit rather than lessening the force of the blow. sure plenty of stuff is going to glance off a rune plate if such a thing existed but it wouldn't help you 'dodge' an attack. I sort of wish there were 2 types of defense an armor (maybe even stats) could give you but that is too drastic of a change for RS I'm sure.
