Getting better at soloing Graardor

Featured Replies

I've just managed to get 96 summoning, so I now have Pack Yak, Overloads, and Turmoil/Soul Split, and I'm looking to fight Graardor to (hopefully) get enough money for a drygore off-hand. What I'm looking for are improvements to my strategy, since I have a few difficulties getting my trips to last a while.

Setup:

Barrows helmet (Yes, need a replacement, I know)

Bandos Chestplate

Bandos Tassets

Drygore Mace

Enhanced Excalibur (best off-hand I have, unfortunately)

Dragon Boots

Barrows Gloves (or whatever people call the best Culinaromancer gloves)

Cape from Nomad's Requiem

Amulet of Fury

Warrior Ring

So, here are the issues I've been running into:

1) Rocktails don't last that long. I'm considering using Saradomin Brews instead for all healing, since I run out of rocktails very quickly. This might have something to do with the next one...

2) When to use Soul Split: I've been using Deflect Melee while Graardor is alive, then as soon as he dies, kill the sergeants (Steelwill, Strongstack, then Grimspike in that order) with Soul Split on, then use my remaining adrenaline for regenerate. I tried just killing Graardor with Soul Split on, but I was taking way too much damage to make that work. Was I just missing something?

3) Ability bar: I currently have the abilities set up like this: Sever (mostly to lower the damage Graardor does), Backhand, Fury, Dismember, Slice, and Havoc. I also have Assault, Destroy, and Slaughter. My strategy is to use Slaughter as soon as it's available, run so he has to follow me and takes additional damage, then use Assault then Destroy as they become available.

Those are the main problems I have/things I'm unsure about when it comes to soloing, and I know that there are a lot of people who have a lot more experience with it than I do, so I'm hoping that I can get some advice here. If there's anything else you need to know about what I'm doing, just ask.

EDIT: Also, I have very little cash to use to upgrade what I have. Assume I only have about 5-10m since I spent just about everything this last week to get prayer and summoning.

Personally, I would stall adrenaline between kills so that you can start off with thresholds. You might also consider using a Vampyrism aura and/or scrimshaw if healing is a serious issue. Along with your yak, you could shove a pony pouch and scrolls in it so that you can change familiars once you run out of food.

Realistically though, you should be doing QBD instead of Graardor if you are having issues with trip length.

“I had a feeling we weren’t coming back from this fight when it began.”

“Do you have any regrets?”

“I don’t. It seems surprising, I know, but I wouldn’t change a thing. This is how it was meant to be.”

“Huh, you never really notice how lovely the day is until you realize you’ll never see it again.”

“Mmmhmm.”

The issue would be stalling adrenaline long enough - there's a good amount of time between spawns, at least from my experience, so I'm not sure if I could stall long enough.

Also, would it be a good idea to flash to Soul Split when I use the thresholds to get the healing from the higher damage it does?

Will buy a few scrimshaws and see how much that helps.

I have no experience with QBD and I'm trying to get back into solo bossing with stuff that's a little more familiar first - I haven't really fought any bosses with multiple phases yet, so I'm getting back in without trying something really new right off the bat.

you can definitely stall long enough. Personally i would quickhop instead of staying in one world for faster kills, but if you want to stall just do

surge-anticipate-surge-freedom-surge-anticipate-surge-freedom... repeat on as long as you need, you can stall infinitely.

if youre stalling just keep soul split on the entire kill

Well, I tried a run last night with the vampyrism aura/scrimshaw. I'm amazed - I was doing so well that I felt like I could basically live there. I had more issues keeping my health up to get my killcount than I did when fighting Graardor, which I found kind of amazing.

Next step: get better at stalling so I can start off with threshold abilities.

Thanks for the help.

EDIT: Well, I tried QBD on a whim today. Conclusion: screw Graardor, I'm going to be basically living there for the time being.
