Can't find any topic that seems to resemble my question, but if there is, please point me to it.

After some years I decided to login to the old Runescape again. At first I coudn't login due to that I forgot my password, after that due to not having a username or something. So I went and reset my password. After that made a username on my old account (was logged in with my old account at the account page), couldn't chose my original name, which I thought was odd.
Then I made a username which wasn't my original name. But then when I logged in I had to start from the tutorial allover again. That is when I am logged in with my old name and password. Whilst at the account site I can still see my old stats and everything. I can see my old friends in the friendlist though.
My question is how can I login to my old account with its stats and stuff and everything?
Kind regards,

If you have an account from some years ago, all of your stats and items will be on RuneScape 3, and you have to start over with blank stats on OSRS. To see your stats and stuff you would need to log in through the RS3 client, either NXT or legacy, which you can get from the website. There are services that will trade gold in some ratio from one game to another, but this is done as a trust trade and at your own risk.

Yeah as Arceus said all stats and progression from whenever you quit will still be there on your account, but that account is for the main game - RS3.

OSRS is an offshoot game which launched around 4 years ago now and whilst you can login with the same account details it is its own game that starts from blank.

As for having to pick a new name and not being able to chose your original name that is simple - they remove display names from inactive accounts periodically to free them up for current users. Your display name must've been taken in this manner and thus when you came back you had to pick a display name and couldn't re-use your old one as someone else has already taken it.
