I have absolutely no reason for that. If they were on the ground I wouldn't mind, in fact I'd just ignore them on the ground. But I have to destroy these shards since they are forced to my inventory. But if you pick up the bag for them, you can put the shards in the bag, store the bag in your bank, and then you only waste one bank space with them.
